Campus Resolution for the Support of Military students and families:
Military Family Campus Initiatives and Activities
Burleson ISD recognizes the unique challenges faced by military-connected children and is dedicated to supporting their academic and social well-being through the Purple Star School Program. We strive to equip all our students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in college, the workforce, and life.
Our commitment to educational excellence includes fostering modern learning environments, offering diverse opportunities for career exploration, and employing exceptional educators. Burleson ISD serves over 12,000 students, including more than 1,400 military-connected children.
We understand the sacrifices made by military families and are honored to provide a supportive community and superior education. If you're seeking an exceptional place to raise your family, we invite you to choose Burleson ISD, specifically the Academy of Sports and Wellness at Frazier. Our campus has begun the process of pursuing Purple Star Campus Designation through the Texas Education Agency, in order to better promote the academic, social and emotional well-being of our military-connected students and support the unique needs of military families. We are excited to embark on this journey of learning and continual growth that comes along with the process.

Here are a few of the events we had for military-connected students and their families in the 2025-26 school year:
In October we welcomed students and their families to our annual Math-O-Ween family engagement event. At this event, Mrs. Dumbauld, the Campus Based Military Liaison greeted and interacted with families, providing information to families (both military-connected and civilian) about the Purple Star Designation program and introduced herself as the campus-based military liaison. This was an opportunity for Military families to connect with other families who are familiar with the military family culture.

In November we celebrated National Veteran and Military family appreciation month. We hosted a Veterans Day program and warmly welcomed members of the Armed Forces and Veterans out to enjoy a student-centered program filled with patriotic songs sung by student groups. Our very own Frazier Student Ambassador group assisted with this special event by helping to decorate and by proudly presenting the flag of each of the branches of the U.S. Armed forces, as the official song of each of those branches was played.

In December 2025 we hosted a military family event and shared information about resources available to military families.
In April to celebrate the Month of the Military Child, students and staff were encouraged to wear purple on Purple UP! day, as a show of support for Military-Connected students and families. Special announcements and facebook posts were also made during the month of April to spread awareness to students and staff that Military Children serve, too!

In December Frazier hosted a special holiday event where military-connected students and families could enjoy sweet treats and pick out some gifts while they mingled with other military-connected families. At this event, parents also learned more about the Purple Star Designation program and community resources specific to military families. This event was made possible through donations from Operation Homefront, Christ Chapel Bible Church, The Medal of Honor Museum and through volunteers who worked the event, including members of a local Veteran’s group, community members and school personnel.

Student Ambassador Program: Aiming to welcome and support / ease the transition for military-connected students
At Frazier we have in place a Student-Led transition program, with the help of our Frazier Student Ambassadors. School-wide procedures are in place to ensure our new military-connected students feel welcomed. Our goal is to ease the uncertainty and anxiety of being a new student on an unfamiliar campus.
We warmly welcome you to our campus, and are excited to provide a special tour designed just for your military-connected family. During your visit, your child will have the opportunity to become familiar with the common areas of the school (i.e. library, cafeteria, gymnasium, Counselor’s office) and meet helpful school staff and fellow students through introductions facilitated by our student ambassadors.
Teachers utilize a peer buddy system to pair new military students with a peer from the same classroom to sit with the student at lunch and guide them through classroom processes.
The Frazier Ambassadors serve a vital role in welcoming all Frazier students, as well as helping in various ways around campus. They greet students at the front door, assist students in the cafeteria at breakfast time, assist with proudly raising and taking down the American and Texas flags each day, and make special morning announcements such as for Veterans day and Month of the Military Child. Most importantly, the Frazier Student Ambassadors serve an active role at campus family engagement events such as our annual Veterans day program.
